Find and Contact a Carpool Buddy in Under 2 Minutes
by jbellmyer
This short vid walks you through the site, and gives you some interesting info about how we approached the project.
Welcome Rumblrs!
by jbellmyer
Enter your actual home and work addresses (or approximations if you worry about privacy) and you should get actual carpool results, based on the 200,000 fake users we created. If you live in a major US city (>200,000 people) you should find something.
I apologize to our international friends - there was no way we could geocode enough data to cover all the countries participating in the Rumble. We were thinking of you, though!
Rails Rumble!
by jbellmyer
Well, it's done. We completed our Rails Rumble app, a carpooling site for the masses. We loaded it with over 120,000 fake users (with real home and work addresses) so you can search for carpool buddies as if the site were fully running.
Go ahead and search. If you find a good match, you can contact them, and you'll be prompted to signup. From then on, you can come back to the site to find your best matches.
Our earnest hope is that RR was a launching pad for getting our butts in gear and getting the site started. Give us your honest feedback (use our contact link above). Thanks!
Lessen your CARbon footprint
by freelanceford
Our carbon footprint is the measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced. At Poolr we realize that people will use this service to hopefully save money in these hard economic times. However, there is also a very strong effect on the climate and environment from carpooling - lessening the units of CO2 emmitted by cars on a daily basis. Now it may be a no brainer that the less cars there are on the road, the less pollutants there will be in the air - but how big of a difference can you really make? Fill out the calculator at www.carboncounter.org and see how big of an impact you make on the environment. Then sign up with Poolr to start diminishing that footprint.
